1 Circulation
The present report is being circulated to: the CCHD Management Team, Regional Promoters, Supporters, Sponsor and Partner Organisations, IGU Executive Committee.

2 Source of Information
The information circulated by this Report is essentially based on the e-mail traffic which has characterised the January-April activity.

3 UNESCO
Collaboration with UNESCO (Culture Sector, Division of Cultural Policies and Intercultural Dialogue) began in April. Proposed co-operation areas by UNESCO: general debates organised around key issues and discourse regarding interculturality, dialogue and development; mainstreaming cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue in the Decade on Education for Sustainable Development; linking indigenous knowledge systems; cultural mapping with indigenous and/or other local communities; linking biological and cultural diversity. To put this collaboration in motion, A. Vallega has drafted i) a paper to demonstrate the complementarity of the CCHD International Year and the 2001 Year on Dialogue Among Civilizations; ii) a proposal for an international event on the 2003 (Intangible Culture), and 2005 (Cultural Diversity) UNESCO conventions.

4 UNITED NATIONS UNIVERSITY
Collaboration with the United Nations University (UNU) began in April. In this respect: i) UNU will be regarded as a CCHD Operational Sponsor; ii) Prof. Hans van Ginkel, Rector of UNU, will be regarded as a CCHD Supporter; iii) the UNU will support the proposal to proclaim a UN Year on Cultures and Civilizations for Human Development; iv) collaboration is expected to be concerned with education, that is, with a cardinal component of the CCHD Action Plan.

5 Other UN organisations
The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has also been called on for collaboration.

6 Sponsors and partners
At the present time, 11 organisations have agreed to become CCHD sponsors or partners.

7 Supporters
At the present time, 60 people are included in the Roster of CCHD Supporters. The list is included in Annex 1 (Supporter Roster.doc). Members of the Management Team and Regional Promoters are kindly invited to invite scientists, and personalities from the fields of culture, politics and the media to serve as Supporters. If necessary, please use the enclosed letter (Whom it may concern.doc).

8 Call for funds
Calls for funds have been addressed to the Rockfeller Foundation, Ford Foundation, Volkswagen Foundation and ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius.

9 Governments
A number of governments have been invited, or are going to be invited, to collaborate with CCHD regarding the proposal to UNESCO and the UN General Assembly to proclaim an International on Cultures and Civilizations for Human Development. For details please contact the CCHD Co-ordinator or Secretariat.

10 IGU National Committees
In April, a call for collaboration was circulated to the IGU National Committees. So far, 16 Committees have reacted positively and intend to collaborate in various respects. A detailed breakdown of this collaboration framework is available (please, contact the CCHD Secretariat).

11 Geographical Societies and Associations
A call for collaboration is currently being circulated to approximately 150 geographical societies and associations.

12 ALECSO
A. Vallega will meet Mr Mongi Bousina, Director of the Organisation Arabe pour l'Education, la Culture et les Sciences (ALECSO) to agree on the actions to be undertaken jointly.

13 Géographie et Cultures
An article by A. Vallega will be published in the Géographie et Cultures journal, presenting the CCHD initiative.
