What is CCHD?
Cultures and Civilizations for Human
Development (CCHD) is an interdisciplinary initiative which encourages
intercultural and intercivilizational co-operation with a view to pursuing
human development.
By its very nature, CCHD is interdisciplinary
and is based on multi-perspective concepts and representations of cultures and
civilizations, in such a way as to understand how individual human communities
have approached these subjects in their history and intellectual evolution.
CCHD Organisation
The co-ordination of CCHD was entrusted to
Adalberto Vallega, President of the International Geographical Union. The
organisation comprises a Management Team (12 people from 12 countries) and
Regional Promoters (currently 10 people from 9 countries). The Home of

Operational levels
The CCHD initiative will be carried out at two
operational levels:
§
The
first level, which is presented in the CCHD
Action Plan, will consist of a set of actions to be carried out in the
medium term focusing on i) education, ii) the media, iii) social communication,
and iv) collaboration with decision-making centres.
§
The
second level will consist of a proposal to the United Nations to proclaim an
International Year on Cultures and Civilizations for Human Development.

UN collaboration
At the present time, CCHD enjoys collaboration
with UNESCO, Culture Sector, Division of Cultural Policies and Intercultural
Dialogue, and with the United Nations University.
