One day after the announcement, in the Home we received the following communication, directly from Niko's family.
Dear friends and colleagues, this is the last letter that you got from Niko, to be more precise from his sons, Levan, Nika and Dato and from his wife Nelly. With great sadness we have to inform you that Niko Beruchashvili departed forever from this word to start the greatest expedition of his life.
I can only say that Niko's family is what one can expect a great man's family to be.

Condolescences expressed by Prof. Adalberto Vallega, President of the IGU
The Executive Committee of the International Geographical Union is shocked, astonished and profoundly sorrowful about the death of Professor Dr. Nikoloz L. Beroutchashvili.
His scientific profile, together with his incomparable human spirit, are in our minds. Professor Beroutchashvili was able to open scientifically well motivated, and socially relevant, new conceptual and methodological frontiers in landscape research, and to catalyse wide interest from the whole international geographical community.
Moreover, in the framework of the chairmanship of the IGU Commission on Landscape Analysis he has been able to give unprecedented impetus to this research arena. These excellent scientific qualities have been combined with rare inclination and ability to establish and strengthen collaboration and human communication.
The Executive Committee of the International Geographical Union joins me in expressing the deepest sympathy to Professor Beroutchashvili's family, and to the Russian geographical community.
Adalberto Vallega
